EICR Legal Requirements and Responsibilities
Prior to July 1st 2020, there was no legal requirement for landlords to obtain an electrical installation condition report (EICR). The government changed that in order to ‘make sure the private rented sector will offer high quality, safe and secure housing’. They also acknowledge that many ‘good landlords’ already routinely carry out an EICR and perform necessary remedial work without it being the law.
