The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

Clause 17 demands that ‘any facilities, equipment and devices … are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair‘ by the responsible person.

The bi-annual testing recommended in BS 5839 requires the entire fire detection and alert system is checked at least every six months by a ‘competent person’ with specialist knowledge of fire alarm systems and detectors. If your system is particularly large or complex, quarterly is advisable.
