How to Save Your Business Money and Reduce Your Tax Bill

Warehouse LED Lighting

There are several ways of reducing overheads and tax, but one of the most practical is to replace your incandescent or fluorescent lighting with high energy efficiency warehouse LED lighting. LED modules and control systems are available for both low bay or high bay lighting systems.

So how does this work?

Over the course of a year, the savings in lighting costs can be significant. For example, installing LED low bay lighting units in your South London Warehouse, with PIR (Passive infra-red) detectors and timers, could save well over 50% off your lighting bill.

If you are currently using fluorescent low bay lights or HIDs, these will need to be always on. In many areas of your warhouse e.g. storage bins, for most of the day, lighting will not be needed. To switch conventional lighting systems on and off each time one of your employees needs access to the area is not practical. The lighting units will have a shorter life and it takes several minutes for them to reach full brightness.

LED warehouse lighting systems do not suffer from these disadvantages. When they are switched on, they achieve full brightness in a fraction of a second. Unlike old-style lighting, repeatedly switching LED low bay units on and off does not affect the life, so you will still obtain the quoted hours (often around 50,000) whilst consuming less electricity and having a more efficiently lit warehouse.

That leads us nicely into the second reason that an warehouse LED lighting system makes sense – less maintenance. Once fitted, it will not need replacing for several years. For a standard unit, running  contunuously, it will last for well over five and a half years. So running it for say 6 hours per day in total by using ‘on demand’ technology means that, once fitted, it should be about 22 years until you next need to change it!

OK, so that’s how you can reduce overheads, but what about taxes?

The government operate an ECA (enhanced capital allowance) scheme which, in their own words is:

a straightforward way for a business to improve its cash flow through accelerated tax relief.”

Needless to say, there are hoops to jump through and barriers to cross, but with the right electrical contractor, the process is much easier. Not all warehouse LED lighting units meet the standards required to obtain your ECA. Also, the ECA rules take into account the overall operation of your warehouse lighting systems, so simply changing outdated low bay lighting for the equivalent LED module does not guarantee success.

South London Electricians use Right-Light® high output LED warehouse lighting modules which ARE ECA eligible, together with the most energy-efficient drivers and control systems.
