LED Flood Lighting Benefits

Stadium Lighting

In order to make a stadium economically viable, it needs to be used as much as possible. Operating it on a weekday afternoon will not draw in the crowds – a stadium needs to be open when people are not at work. Traditionally, that has meant weekend events or evenings in the summer. Floodlighting allows so much more flexibility, allowing stadiums to benefit from year-round opening.

If you are in local government, or on the organising committee of a sports club in Croydon, Bromley, Sutton, Lewisham etc, area lighting can be a bit of a headache due to installation and running costs. Then of course there is compliance with the lighting regulations of the governing body of the sport to consider too.

LED Sports Ground Flood Lighting

Traditionally, sports stadium flood lights have been based on HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting. This has several disadvantages – slow start up time, wastes a lot of energy as heat, requires heavy-duty infrastructure to name but three.

The smart alternative is to use LED flood lights. Call us now on 07956 523316 to discuss your LED floodlight requirements.

There are many benfits of LED flood lighting over traditional HID systems. LED lighting has a much longer lifetime than HID units, so you will not need to spend as much on maintenance. The start up time is a fraction of a second from off to full intensity. No longer will you need to switch on the lights well in advance; no more wasted electricity whilst the lights reach their full brightness.

LED floodlights are much less bulky and lighter than their traditional counterparts thus the supporting posts or towers can be less heavily engineered too. All these add up to saving you cash and helping you to meet your environmental targets at the same time. A further environmental benefit of LED flood lighting is that it is usually mercury free.

Lumen for lumen, an LED light source uses less electricity than a traditional source. By installing (or changing to) an LED flood lighting system you will use less electricity and benefit from reduced flood light running costs … even more help towards your environmental and budget targets!

So what do we recommend?

Our recommended alternative to conventional floodlighting is the OptiVision LED gen2 by Philips Lighting®. This is a high performance IP66 rated LED floodlight that produces an outstanding quality of light for any sporting application. The driver is external to the floodlight and can be either fixed remotely or attached to the floodlight bracket. If you have an existing control system using the DALI protocol, these LED floodlights are compatible.
