It is a legal requirement that emergency lights are maintained on a regular basis in accordance with BS EN 5266.

Emergency lighting is designed to operate when the main lighting fails providing adequate lighting in order to safely evacuate the building.

In addition to user responsibillities, the responsible person is required to appoint a competent person to carry out a bi-annual and annual testing of all emergency lighting installed.

We carry out maintenance and remedial work to any type and manufacture of emergency lighting in accordance with BS EN 5266.

Emergency lighting maintenance intervals

Bi-annual (every 6 months) – we will carry out the following:

1 hour test of all emergency lighting by simulating a mains failure
Check all luminaires and signs are present, clean and functioning correctly
Restore mains supply
Ensure individual charging lights are indicating
Results recorded in the system logbook
Certificate issued

Annual (every 12 months) – we will carry out the following:

Full duration test of all emergency lighting by simulating a mains failure for 3 hours
Check all luminaires and signs are present, clean and functioning correctly
Restore mains supply
Ensure individual charging lights are indicating
Results recorded in the system logbook
Certificate issued
